About the Medium Words leaderboard
Medium Words is the benchmark. Standard five-to-eight letter English words at a 60-second length is what almost every typing test in the world measures, so this is the board to look at if you want to know how your WPM compares to a number you have seen quoted anywhere else.
It is also the mode where the scoring is least distorted. Letter drills inflate WPM through the one-entry-one-word rule, and short test lengths inflate it by never letting fatigue set in. A minute of ordinary words at ordinary length gives you a figure you can actually reproduce — and defend.

Medium Words leaderboard FAQs
Is this the same as a standard typing test?
As close as this site gets. Medium Words uses standard English vocabulary and the conventional characters-divided-by-five WPM formula, so a 60-second result here is directly comparable to typing tests elsewhere.
What counts as a good score on this board?
Around 40 WPM is a typical office average and 65-75 WPM is the usual professional standard. Because the people who submit runs to a leaderboard are self-selected toward enthusiasts, the top of this board sits far above that — treat 100+ WPM at 97% accuracy as genuinely fast.
