About the Home Row leaderboard

The home row is where touch typing starts and where every other reach returns to. This board ranks runs on the ASDF-JKL keys alone, which means the scores are unusually high in raw terms and unusually revealing in practice: with no reaching involved, anything slowing you down is finger independence rather than distance.

It is the most useful drill on the site for anyone rebuilding technique. If you learned to type by hunting and pecking and later got fast anyway, home row runs tend to expose the compromise — fingers that do not rest where they should, and a hand that repositions between keystrokes instead of anchoring.
