About the Bottom Row leaderboard

The bottom row is the keyboard's hardest, and this is the smallest board on the site — which makes it one of the easiest places to place well if you are willing to practise something genuinely uncomfortable. The downward reach is weaker than the upward one, and it is dominated by the ring and little fingers, which are the least independent.

The letters here are also less frequent in English, so most typists have simply had less practice with them. That is the opportunity: a mode where almost nobody has built muscle memory rewards deliberate work faster than the crowded word-based boards do.

Prefer to train rather than compete? The Bottom Row practice page has the full guide to this drill, or browse all practice modes.

Bottom Row leaderboard FAQs

Why is the bottom row so much harder?

Two reasons compound. The downward reach is mechanically weaker than the upward one, and the row leans on the ring and little fingers, which have the least independent movement. Its letters are also rarer in English, so they get less incidental practice.

Is it easier to rank on this board?

Generally yes — it has the fewest recorded runs of any mode, so the field is thinner. That also means the board moves noticeably whenever a strong run lands.
