About the Letter Pairs leaderboard
Letter Pairs serves random two-character combinations, which removes vocabulary from the equation entirely and leaves only the mechanical transition between two keys. It is a small, focused board, and the scores on it measure something no word-based mode can isolate: how fast your fingers move between arbitrary positions.
Real words let you cheat. Common letter sequences are burned into muscle memory as single motions, which is why familiar words feel effortless. Random bigrams strip that away and force every transition to be executed rather than recalled — which is uncomfortable, and exactly why it works as a drill.

Why is this harder than typing real words?
Because real words contain letter sequences your hands already know as single motions. Random pairs cannot be anticipated, so each one has to be executed deliberately — which reveals transitions your normal typing quietly avoids.
How often should I run this drill?
In short doses. It is a diagnostic and a corrective rather than a mode to grind — a few runs to find weak transitions, then work on them inside word modes where they actually appear.
